We strive to become a greener and more ethical company and we know many of our customers have a similar ambition. Below are some of the things we've put in place to help improve our own and our customers ethical performance.

Making greener deliveries with our ECO-Start vans
65% of our delivery vans are Mercedes Benz Sprinter ECO-Start. These vans help decrease emissions through the use of ‘ECO-Start’ engines. When the vehicle stops in traffic the engine automatically cuts-out, meaning fuel is only being used when the van is on the move. This is estimated to cut fuel consumption by 10% meaning less pollution in the atmosphere.
There are of course a variety of options to cut emissions from vehicles and naturally we considered them all before selecting ECO-Start as the best solution without it affecting our delivery service to you. Click here for more details.

Doing good things
In 2010 we donated £10,000 to young person’s mobility charity Whizz-Kidz.
Whizz-Kidz provides the right mobility equipment at the right time, skills-training and advice to give disabled children and young people the independence to live a life of freedom at home, at school and at play: the independence to be them selves.
Through a combination of fundraising events organised by the RED BOX team, and the money raised from the sales of Post-It Notes® we reached our overall target of £10,000. Thank you to everyone for their kind support.
Whizz-Kidz is the working name of The Movement for Non-Mobile Children Registered charity no: 802872

Promoting Environmental Awareness
To help raise awareness of environmental issues in the workplace, we've created some A3 posters giving advice and tips on how to create a greener office. Click here to download your copies of our Be Green posters.
World Environment Day on the 5th of June provided us with an excellent opportunity to increase environmental awareness among our own team. We asked our staff to think creatively about how they could save additional energy in the workplace and then document it in a photograph. There were several fantastic submissions and the most imaginative energy saving idea was awarded with a bottle of Pimms – it was summer after all! | |

Sustainable marketing
Wherever possible we use and print on FSC accredited paper. By only using FSC paper for all the catalogues and literature we produce, we can be confident our marketing efforts are not contributing to the destruction of the World's forests but are providing an incentive for responsible forest management and helping to increase the number of certified forests.
We also work hard to reduce the amount of paper we use. Almost all of our literature is available in electronic format and wherever possible sent electronically. |
Reducing packaging
We want our packaging to have the lowest environmental impact possible which is why we pack and deliver most of our goods in our own reusable red cardboard boxes. Made from recycled cardboard we can collect and reuse them up to 5 times before recycling them. |

Recycling
We're working hard to boost recycling levels and now offer a complete recycling service. You can get your recycling bags delivered along with your normal RED BOX orders, throw all your recycling into one bag and we'll arrange the collection for you. It's easy to set-up, just complete our online registration form here. |

Our carbon footprint We believe that global climate change can only be addressed if each and every one of us takes steps to reduce our carbon footprint. RED BOX is actively seeking ways to reduce its carbon emissions. We have already switched to a green energy supplier and have streamlined our delivery schedule to enhance our carbon-efficiency.
In partnership with CarbonClear, RED BOX is now a carbon neutral organisation. Click here to open our carbon neutral factsheet.

Supplying our customers with eco-friendly products
We've crammed lots of products into our Essentials 2011 Catalogue which meet stringent ethical standards. They're easy to spot because they are highlighted in green and we have created a set of symbols which help to identify why they are ethical. Click here to read more about them.
